Be very careful about any unsolicited email that asks for identity information.
even of ot seems to be from a company you have done business with in the past.
The first
thing I look at is the return address of the sender. If I do not recognize it,
it goes in the scam/block file. If I do recognize it as a person or company I
have dealt with, I use that handy portable device called a telephone to call
and verify the validity of the message. I am sure I have missed out on some
actual freebies but I have only actually been been hacked successfully one in
the past decade.
I am sure i have missed out on milliions of dollars in free offers and all
sorts of rewards by not taking surveys or respoonding to solicitations that
seem to come from big box stores.
If you get something that looks like ransomware, take a screenshot and notify
the FCC. It's a felony. Turn your computer off, unplug it, remove the battery
for a couple of minutes, then restart. Usually it will go away.
Do not trust strangers. As Sky Masterson says in Guys and Dolls, you will end
up with cider in your ear.
Remember that opening the wrong file or link can cost an elelction. Ask
Hillary Clinton.
