That part of the bill is only one of the repulsive features. Consider that
Kemp has removed thousands of predominantly nonWhite voters from the rolls, cut
back on early voting and reduced the number of polling places in minority
dominant areas. Unfortunately, the President cannot overturn these attacks by
executive order or bringing in the Guard. The remedy is passage of federal law
to make voting equally accessible to everyone. The fact that people are
willing to stand in line for hours to vote and protest these conditions is
recognition that they understand the importance of the franchise.
By the way, we had a bipartisan "Stop Asian Hate" rally in our town yesterday.
Even in subtle ways, discrimination is embedded in our society, often where you
do not expect it.

Subject: A crime to give out water?
As you probably have heard, a new law passed in Georgia (over which a Black
state legislator was arrested) makes it a crime to give water or food to people
waiting in line to vote (primarily in Black neighborhoods, of course).
President Biden rightly called this bill "sick" and "un-American."
But he has the power to do more than just complain about it.
Biden should order the emergency federalization of National Guard troops to
support safe and healthy voting in any state where a member of Congress or the
state legislature or the governor requests it, by providing water, food, face
masks/PPE, and emergency medical and legal support to people waiting in line to
vote, and to support their right to vote safely and without harassment by any
other means necessary.
This Federal intervention is fully within the President's power, and Federal
troops carrying it out cannot be arrested or otherwise prevented from doing so
by State authorities. Any State agents or other persons attempting to interfere
in this mission should be immediately arrested and charged to the full extent
of the law.
If the NG troops assigned cannot carry out this mission on their own, regular
Federal troops or other agencies should be deployed to assist them as necessary.
This should make it abundantly and effectively clear that the public policy of
the US supports free and fair voting for ALL Americans. Fuck Brian Kemp and the
white horse he rode in on. I don't know why this has not been proposed before;
it seems fairly straightforward.
President Biden: you can do this. When in charge, TAKE charge.
