"Home"

Laura Kinney, Elisabeth Braddock, Logan

A small stream of cigar smoke trailed behind him as he by passed all the
manors more annoying parts, which for Logan meant the security system. He
still carried his unconscious daughter in his arms as he approached the
French doors near the back of the house. He was tracking the scent of the
manor's lady and knew she was in the back parlor, and that she wasn't in the
best of moods. Nudging the doors open with his foot he stepped inside and
grumbled. "Loss something toots."

Eyes of blazing purple swirled as she span around only to freeze when she
saw Laura in Logan's arms. "What... happened?" Elisabeth rasped.

"Kid forgot healing factors don't make us immortal." Logan grunted. "Got a
bed I can put her in?"

"Through the office," she whispered hoarsely, shuddering. "Care to explain
further, Wolverine?"

Logan grumbled as chewed on his cigar. He cared the girl in the direction he
was pointed and through to a bedroom. He laid her down gently. "Caught her
scent in Alberta followed her north, far north. Better get some blankets and
a fire goin' Bets, this is all the kid was wearin'."

Elisabeth bit back a growl of curses and started putting logs on the embers
of her morning fire. "The blankets are in the chest beside the bed," she
told him. "Make yourself useful, if you're going to live up to what she
calls you."

"You got something' to say, Bets?" The short burly man asked as he got
blankets to throw over the girl after peeling off the trench coat and boots.

"If I had, I would," she informed him haughtily even as she stoked up the
fire then boosted the heating in the room to. She settled herself to rub
some warmth into the girl as best she could. "You know me well enough to
know that, at least."

Logan nodded. "True enough but you look ready to spit nails."

"I am," she whispered sadly, stroking the finge out of her lover's eyes.
"She did this to get peace, didn't she?"

Again Logan nodded as he leaned against the wall and folding his arms across
his chest. "Seein as how I found her were she buried her mother."

Elisabeth closed her eyes and nodded, a look of deep regret on her face.
"My fault then," was all she said.

"You push her out the door? Or were you trying to help her fight her
demons?" Logan asked with a grunt. "You didn't do anything but what she
needed."

Raising pain and now anger filled eyes to the gruff man in her room,
Elisabeth snarled at him. "I drove her to make peace. She did this because
of me."

"You get the ego from Worthington?" Logan asked pointedly. "You really think
anyone can make her do something she didn't want to do?"

"I took nothing from Warren," she huffed. "We British nobility are born
this way." She stroked the girl's hair tenderly as she soothed her with her
thoughts. "My silly, sweet girl," she murmured.

Logan allowed himself to smile before returning to chewing his cigar.
"She'll be alright. Just needs to sleep it off, might wake up stiff and
sore."

"She needs more instruction from the only one here who understands her
mutation," Elisabeth said stiffly.

"I can't tell her what her limits are." Logan's voice took on a tone he only
used when speaking of his children. "Can't tell her not to push 'em either.
She's not a child."

"She is yours though," Elisabeth reminded. "Help me protect her."

Logan nodded. "Always will."

Laura began to stir, the voices around her unclear, but the touch familiar.
~~Home?~~

~~Yes, my love~~ Elisabeth leaned down to kiss Laura's forehead then shift
so her head was in her lap. ~~Safe now~~

Her skin felt as if it were on fire and her body ached causing her to moan.
~~She knows now.~~

"She always did," Elisabeth whispered as she raised her eyes to stare at
Wolverine. "Make tea, please, Logan. Have you told your wife where you
are?"

Logan took the cigar out of his mouth and smirked. "I learned a long time
ago not to take off on 'Ro with out a word. Guess the kid hasn't figured
that out yet." He put the cigar back in his mouth and left the room.

Elisabeth snorted softly then rolled her eyes. "Let me run you a bath,
love, it'll make it better."

Laura couldn't ever remember feeling so stiff, it actually hurt to reach out
to take Elisabeth's hand. "Are," She croaked out, 'you angry?"

"Being angry can wait til tomorrow," she told Laura softly. "Right now I'm
just relieved you're home safe. Promise me you won't run away without
telling me again and we're even, okay?"

"There's nothing left to ever take me away again." Laura whispered as she
tugged lightly on Elisabeth's arm to let her know she wanted her to lay down
with her. "Thank you."

Snuggled down and wrapping the blanket closer around them both, Elisabeth
kissed her lover lightly on the lips. "What's to thank, my love?"

"Putting up with me for a start." She still felt tired beyond belief but
having her lover hold her made Laura feel better, stronger. "For making me
see I couldn't keep going on the way I had been."

"Then forgive a fool for not having faith in your intentions," Elisabeth
asked gently. "I feared your self-destruction. Forgive me?"

Laura looked at her lover and blinked. "Was I that bad?"

"Once upon a time," she admitted.

Making the mistake of laughing, Laura groaned at the ache it caused. "Might
not be so bad anymore but I'm stupid as hell." Picking up Elisabeth's hand
she kissed it. "I'll forgive you my love, but there's nothing really to
forgive. Forgive me?"

"Of course," she said easily then grinned as she kissed her firmly.
"Beautiful woman, silly, but I love you."

Laura sighed as her eyes closed and she clung to lover tightly. "I love you
too, Elisabeth."
