"Where to Go?" By: Lt. Commander Sara Kaelyre The dinner dishes from the night before were still on the dinning table. Two wine glasses sat empty on the coffee table near the sofa. The pillows and hand woven throw that normally adorned the sofa were still laying in the places on the floor where they had landed after being tossed out of the way, and there was a trail of forgotten clothes leading from the sofa to the bedroom. The mess, which was an oddity in the cabin since half of the pair who lived there was a bit of a neat freak, actually made Sara smile as she padded out of the bedroom. She’d spent the night before making up for the mess she’d made in Cyanah’s lab with the coffee flood and it felt really good knowing that they could spend all night together and not have to worry about getting up for shifts. Shoreleaves seemed to come few and far between for the Banshee crew, but when they did come everyone on board savored them. After throwing on one of her over sized t-shirts and putting on one of her favorite music programs, which included a song version of the poem that Sara had written while she and Cyanah were still in the ’intoxicated’ stage of their relationship, Sara started to pick up the mess she and her wife had had fun making the night before. It really didn’t take her long to do and as she finished picking up the scattered clothes, placing them in the clothing recycler in the bedroom, she could still hear the sound of the hydro-shower running. Sara smiled playful as she thought about joining Cyanah in the shower but she stopped when a sudden realization dawned on her. For the first time ever, shoreleave had come and she and Cyanah didn’t have any plans. Sara quickly turned on her heel and instead of heading into the bathroom, headed out into the living room and over to the desk. She pulled the computer terminal towards her and then just sat there. She had absolutely no idea where they should go or what they should do. All Sara knew was that they had two weeks off and she’d be damned if they spent them on the ship. After sitting there another moment or to, Sara finally turned on the computer and checked the time table of the station’s transport shuttles. There was one shuttle heading to Earth that evening, and one that would leave the next morning that had Betazed listed as one of it’s stops, both shuttles still had open seats. The first shoreleave Sara and Cyanah had ever spent together had been on Deep Space Nine. That had been the week their relationship had moved from being best friends to lovers and the memories still gave Sara a warm fuzzy feeling in the pit of her stomach. Their next shoreleave together had been on Earth. They’d gone to New York City and had been tracked down by Nana Kathryn who wanted to know what had been going on with Rhi. Then came the trip to Ireland, but Sara didn’t really count that as a vacation that they’d taken together. There had just been to much happening then. The last time they’d gone away together was to Delos. That was of course the best one of all since it had ended up being their wedding and honeymoon. As Sara thought about their past shoreleaves she couldn’t help but laugh out loud. With the exception of that weekend on DS9, they really weren’t alone on any of those trips. As much as Sara would like to visit with family, she wanted to be alone with her wife even more. Since Cyanah’s promotion and Sara’s obsession with her anti-aging experiments, they really weren’t spending enough real time together. Sara wanted the next two weeks to be free of the outside world. Betazed would be a hard place to be alone with her grandmother and Mrs. Troi there, but there was always the island. Sara would love to show Cyanah the real version of their favorite beach program. Earth would be a little easier to hide on as long as they avoid certain areas. They could always go to her Aunt Bev’s condo in Aspen, but Aspen would be buried in snow and there was no way to control how cold the cold was like they could on the holodeck. Getting out a blank padd, Sara started making little notes about where they could go. She’d make a list and then she and Cyanah could talk it out over lunch. They might be cutting it a little close when it comes to getting passage on one of the shuttles, but it felt unbelievably good to be so spontaneous.
