Hm. Either those guys have a lot of guts, or are total idiots.
::shakes head::
I suppose there is a very fine line between bravery and stupidity.

Subject: [USS Athena] "The Borzine Challenge"

ON

The two Starzen cruisers were released, the moment the U.S.S. Athena dropped out of warp, near the battle site.  The two cruisers sped ahead of the larger ship to join the fray.  The Borzine warships were easily as large as the Starzen cruisers, and looked to be just as menacing.  They were more triangular in ship and outnumnbered the Starzen cruisers times two.

Admiral Detalya had already moved to the conference room, which had been set up as a ward room for him.  Jazmine noted that there was another larger starzen ship, similar to the Admiral's ship, onscene.  Two of the Borzine ships were making attack runs on it.

"Scan the disabled Starzen cruiser for life signs," Ronov ordered.  "Transport them directly to the triage area."  Cargo bay 3 had already been set up as the emergency medical area.

"Ie, Rekkhai," Arrain Dhivael replied from the science console.  The familiar beeps could be heard from the console as she performed her duty.

"Full tactical analysis," Jazmine called out.  Athena was already on yellow alert.

"Twelve Borzine fighters, six Starzen cruisers and one Starzen command ship," Zerliak reported from the tactical station.  "Sensors do detect a simlilar command ship, just across the border.  I would surmise it is of Borzine origin.

"The Borzine warships are slightly more powerful than the Starzen cruisers, in weaponry, but the Starzen cruisers appear to be more maneuverable."

"And should they decide to attack us," Jazmine inquired, though she was pretty certain of the answer.

"They would not have much success," the Romulan officer stated.  He heard an alert from his console and looked down.  "We have been noticed.  The Borzine command ship has just scanned us."

"Let them have a good look, Arrain," Jazmine muttered.  "Let's see the command ship."

The Borzine command ship appeared on the main viewer.  It was similar in shape and size to the Starzen version.  There were more hull changes to make the ship look more menacing.

"The ship is more heavily armored than the warships.  It does have a complement of fighters, and it's energy cannons have a higher rating than the warships do, but it does seem to have limited targeting ability," Zerliak reported. "It also is not a threat to Athena."  Zerliak raised an eyebrow.  "I believe they wish to put us to the test, Captain.  The ship is crossing the border, on an intercept course."

Jazmine chuckled and exchanged a glance with Ronov.  "Ensign Bailey.  Open a hailing frequency."

"Aye, sir," the OPS officer acknowledged. "Frequency open, Captain."

"This is Captain Jazmine Mergahn of the United Space Federation vessel, U.S.S. Athena.  We are here in a neutral position only.  If you fire on my vessel, I will be forced to retaliate.  Please cease your attack fun and return to your side of the border."

An immediate lashing out, of their energy cannon was the only response.  The energy beam struck the Athena's shields and the energy was easily absorbed.

"No damage, Captain," Zerliak reported.

"Target their cannon, Mr. Zerliak," Jazmine said easily. She waited just long enough for the tactical officer to do so.  "Fire."

The phaser beam lanced out from the Athena.  Zerliak's pinpoint accuracy, hit the Borzine weapon, and it was immediately turned to nothing more than a heap of slag.  The Borzine command ship immdiately returned to their side of the border.  Shorty after that, the remainder of the warships also retreated to their side of the border, with the Starzen cruisers in hot pursuit.
