This is sad news indeed! Not at all unexpected; and I’m sure Jay is in a much
happier and more comfortable place. But it still hurts like H. I never got to
meet the man to shake his hand, but we’ve corresponded off and on since the
early 80’s. I feel I’ve lost a friend! And I know the USBCA has.

Hello members and friends,
Several weeks ago, we learned that Jay Leventhal, a good friend and longtime
secretary of the USBCA, was seriously ill. Over the weekend, his obituary was
published in the New York Times, so his death ends a long battle with his
serious health problems.
I met Jay maybe 30 years ago at one of our national championship tournaments.
Soon after that, Jay became active in the organization. He made many
contributions to our organization as secretary and as the editor of our
periodical. During my time as an officer, I could always rely on Jay for level
headed and knowledgable advice. Like many of you, we have also lost a good
friend.
Give us a few days, and we will publish more information about Jay’s leadership
in the organization and some of his memorable games.
Take care.
