I ordered the set last Monday. It arrived today! I would say that the
delivery time is very good.
The board measures 10 inches square. The squares are 1 inch. The Black
squares are raised one eighth of an inch. The board has a felt backing, and
feels made of wood.
The men are rather small. Rooks are half an inch wide at the base and 1 inch
tall. Knights are 0.75 wide and 1.25 tall. Bishops are 0.75 wide and 1.5
inches tall. Queens are 0.75 wide and 1.75 tall. Kings are 0.75 wide and 1.75
tall. Pawns are 0.5 wide and 0.75 tall. All are of staunton design, and the
Black pieces have a dot at the top.
The magnetism is good, although care may have to be taken when examining the
board position, as the pieces do tend to slide along the surface if you are not
gentle. I have not played an actual game with them yet.I would say that this
will make a good travel set, or an OK set for home use.
For the price of just under $50, I think that I will like the set, and
recommend it as a good value in comparison to what other businesses that cater
to the blind offer in the way of chess sets.
