Hello members and friends,
I believe the USBCA turns 50 years old in 2018! The USBCA decided to help
celegrate this milestone by making membership in the USBCA free. Based on what
Chris and Curtis have told me, this decision has expanded our membership in a
substantial way. As a chess player, I look forward to some games against old
friends who have rejoined and new members as well. One way to join is to sign
up for one of our tournaments, and many have done that. We also want you to
consider joining the USBCA even if you do not want to play in a tournament at
this time. You can do that by sending an email to our secretary, Jim Homme.
His email address is jhomme1028@xxxxxxxxx
Let Jim know you want to be a USBCA member.
Why do this now? First, we want as many chess enthusiasts to join us.
Further, we will be holding our next election of officers in March, 2018.
Under our current constitution, you must be a resident of the United States to
run for office or vote in the election. We will send out more info about the
election next month.
In closing, I want to mention that I am not seeking re-election as president
of the USBCA. It is time to have a new leader. To provide some continuity, I
may serve in some other capacity, but not president.
It has been my pleasure to serve in a variety of positions, including
president, so thanks for these opportunities.
Let’s have some fun playing chess.
Thanks.
Al
