I choose:
I prefer an online event and will conform to the stipulations shown above;
At this moment, there is no way an OTB for me. My club is San Francisco
still has no OTB tournaments, and everything is being done online.
USCF also posted rules for online chess, so there is a precedent.

I would be interested in an OTB, but not online.

Greetings everyone,
I hope this finds everyone well. I suspect that some of you are
awaiting news of an online national championship tournament. Thus
far, despite our best efforts, despite the Board’s concerns regarding
COVID-19, the USCF is still pursuing an OTB event. The latest word we
have is that Alex Relya, the man who would TD the OTB event, is
looking at a possible site in Manchester, New Hampshire. He’s looking
to hold the event some time in October. Unfortunately, I do not yet
have details such as dates, hotel costs, distance from public
transportation hubs, airport, train station, proximity to
restaurants, or whether or not there will be an Entry Fee. Alex needs
to know whether anyone, how many, might attend.
What I need from you As Soon As Possible Please, is whether there is
the remotest chance you would consider making the trip to Manchester,
NH, to attend an OTB event.
I would also like to have from you whether there is the remotest
chance you would participate in an online event. It might look
something like this. The games would be played on either skype or
zoom. You must be willing to accept a video call to participate.
There would be a third-party timekeeper/scorekeeper present at every
game. We are serious as a heart attack about preventing anyone from
using software assistance to choose their moves, so your hands and
board must be visible at all times. You would of course be granted
the opportunity for a bathroom break, (not on video (Smile)), but too
much time off camera away from the board could result in your
forfeiting the game. Time control would probably be something like
game/60 or game/90, so the longest a game would be likely to run
would be three hours. And there could be an Entry Fee of perhaps $20
or $30.
Please respond. I don’t care what your answer is, but you will do
your USBCA Board a great service if you respond. Choose one of the
following:
I have no interest in either an OTB or an Online tournament;
I will make an effort to attend the OTB event in New Hampshire;
I prefer an online event and will conform to the stipulations shown
above;
Or you may write in your relevant feelings.
But please respond! Please!
