As for Jorge's question about the Queen's Gambit accepted or declined,
it's purely a matter of preference for black. Tyson or Chris can
correct my observation if need be. But, at least at many top level
games today, the trend is to decline the gambit in favor of their own
piece development. There are many exceptions, especially for those who
enjoy playing the ECO code D20. But, when the gambit is accepted by
black, it gives white a quicker pace of developing his minors. At club
level, it seems that a lot of folks go either way.
Personally, as black, I don't accept gambits unless I'm playing the
Slav defence (e.g. 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3. c4 c6 4.a4 dxc4 5.Nc3 Bf5) or
its various variants.
Remember that while white initiates the moves, black's response often
dictates the type of contours the game will have. That's true whether
white plays e4, d4, Nf3,, etc. Exceptions occur, e.g. if white wants
to play a closed Sicilian with 2.Nc3 (ECO codes B20-25).
OK, that's probably more than you wanted or needed to know. And, I'm
aware that my observations are very gross generalizations. But, it's a
start.
