Che,
Thank you.
It's not about winning the event (USBCA Ladder) and I do intend it to be the
only one I play. It's about getting to know people a little better, spreading a
little bit of wisdom, and playing some creative chess if allowed.
I intend to annotate all the games and put them on here but with names redacted
so no-one gets embarrassed. It will be done objectively and I will highlight my
own mistakes also! That will be a while though, probably next year, so don't
hold your breath. Anyway it took Chris twenty years to write and publish his
book!
Regards,
Tyson

That’s very impressive Tyson, my deep respect for the talent and hard
work that went into that rare achievement.
I’m not sure what the ratings of the others on the ladder would be FIDE
wise, but I would think you should have fantastic odds to take the USBCA
ladder trophy come December.

Subject: [usbca_chess] FIDE Master title
Chris et al
Just as a separate subject and for those who may be curious.
I was awarded the FIDE Master title in January 2008. I was eligible to
apply for it as my FIDE Elo rating that month was 2302. Apparently the only
way I could qualify was to have a published FIDE rating of 2300 or more. I
actually hit every number between 2290 and 2298 during my career. When my
next rating was published I topped out at 2317. Since then age has crept up
on me and the ECF rating is now 2174.
If you are wondering why the USBCA rating list has me at 1491 that's
because I was given a provisional rating of 1400 when I started on the USBCA
Ladder event. It was subsequently increased. However, any time I win against
someone rated below my rating increases by just one point. So I'm sure that
you'll easily work out that to get to a figure that is realistic for my
playing strength I'm going to have to win over 680 games!! It won't be
happening!

Tyson
