Ok, after some experimentation, looks like one can indeed do this, which is way
cool.
So I open the png file in winboard, then step through the moves with alt and
left and right arrow keys.
When I am on a move that I want to comment on, I go to the edit menu, then down
to edit comment.
The quickest way to do this that I’ve found is alt e, then shift m.
You can then enter a comment for that move.
When you save the game to a clipboard, all the moves are there with comments.
Very nice and a great way to review games in my opinion.
Only issue I have right now is the text copied to the clipboard doesn’t break
it up into one line per move, but that is easily edited.
Hope that helps someone else, and if there is a better way to do this, I am all
ears.
Thanks,
Che

Nope, you need to do it in Notepad as far as I know.

Hey all,
I have a game from liChess I wish to do annotation on.
I opened the game pgn file in winboard, and I can step through move by move,
which is cool.
Is there something built into winboard so I can annotate as I go right from the
software?
Or do I simply need to do it manually in notepad or whatever word processor?
Would be nice if I could do it in winboard, so I could update my physical board
on the fly as I step through, which helps me keep a feel for the overall game.
Any advice appreciated,
Che

Hello Jorge,
Thanks for this.
I suspect that the resignation didn't register on your computer/engine.
Always watch out for discovered and double checks they can de devastating.

Hi Tyson, thank you so much for your feedback.
Yes that’s what I meant, I was ok working through the moves until the strange
check situation at the end that I didn’t understand at the time.
Sorry about the resign thing, I put that in because the computer didn’t seem to
write it down but I didn’t realize I had put it up above move 11.
Again, thanks for the feedback on development, that’s very useful as well.
