Greetings All,
Which are you more fond of, the knight or the bishop?
I've heard beginners and even some more experienced players speak at length
as to their favored piece. The short, boring answer is, of course, that it
depends on the board position. How fun is that!?
Well, if you haven't noticed already, we're having a Leap Year. And Saturday
just happens to be Leap Day! And, as it happens, the knight is the only
chess piece which can Leap over its fellow chess pieces, friend or foe. So
let's have an extra Chess Gather, Saturday, 29 February, to celebrate the
Mighty Knight!
I'm looking around for a game or two which features the knight bounding
about causing mayhem and destruction. I have a fun little brain teaser which
features the knight. So, come on into the Chess Castle on Saturday, 29
February, 9 AM Eastern Standard Time, 14:00 UTC, for some chess talk and
fun. Have your board handy. Remember, beginners are especially welcome and
encouraged to join in. And if you have a game or puzzle which particularly
features the horsie, please send it along to me-sooner than later please!

Greetings U.S. Blind Chess Association Members:
In the coming weeks, we will be holding elections for seats on the Executive
Committee (also known as the board of directors) of the United States Blind
Chess Association (USBCA). The new 2-year term begins February 1, 2020.
There are 7 positions, as follows:

If you are interested in serving on the Executive Committee, or have
questions about the duties of any of the positions or about the ambitions we
hope to actualize, please submit the following:
1. A statement of your desire to serve, and in what capacity. Please see
above list of positions.
2. A letter of introduction to the voting membership
3. State your qualifications, goals, and/or ambitions.

If you have never done so before, we very much hope you will consider
serving on the Board. Some of our Board members have been in office for a
very long time and would like to retire. We are looking for members with
energy and enthusiasm to help the USBCA continue to support blind chess
players and to promote the message that blind players can and do play chess.
