Department of Plant Production and Soil Science

"Dear all

Please come and join us in welcoming our soon to be Schoolmates of the
Department of Plant Production and Soil Sciences for a presentation by
their current head Dr. John Annandale entitled: *Managing water and solutes
for crop production and environmental protection: An insight into water
research in the Department of Plant Production and Soil Science*. *Plant
Sciences Complex Auditorium 29 August 11:00*.

John Annandale studied at UP up to the level of MSc Agric in the Department
of Plant Production. His Master's dissertation was on osmotic adjustment of
wheat in response to soil fertility. He then went to Washington State
University for his PhD in Soil Physics, where he was privileged to work
with Gaylon Campbell, who is the author of the book "An Introduction to
Environmental Biophysics", which John uses in his Biophysics course. John's
PhD investigated two dimensional leaching of nitrogen in ridged potato
fields, which introduced him to mechanistic modelling of cropping systems.
He returned to UP in 1992 and has lectured courses in Sustainable Crop
Production Systems, Agricultural Climatology, Agronomic Aspects of
Irrigation, and Environmental Biophysics. He is currently the acting head
of the Department of Plant Production and Soil Science, and has focused his
research on water and solute management in agriculture.

Hope to see you there
