Up here under the Callahan Ridge, we are in view of a peregrine falcon lyrie,
somewhere in the caves of the sandstone cliffs. A BLM wildlife biologist came
up last week and yesterday and put a spotting scope on the area. A week ago,
courting activity was seen, and yesterday, copulation was seen. They will be
back to look again next week.

Another bird adventure happened today. We heard a lot of barred owl hoots and
hisses near-by, so we took our camera and walked to the area. There we saw a
barred owl in a tree eating something. We thought it was something big, but
after viewing the movie we took, it was a maple leaf stuck to whatever it was
eating. But still, it was a fairly large dead something it was tearing apart --
something black with strange pointed white edges.

Here's the (not so great) movie that we took, if anyone has an idea of what it
was eating.
