My last message had the checklist and general location of hotspot Plat I
Reservoir location. For the exact location of the unknown Buteo sp. (hanging
out with and similar to Turkey Vultures), use this checklist map location.

Subject: Unknown Buteo sp. Plat I March 9
I saw a very dark apparent Buteo sp. hawk 11:15 today, perched with two
Turkey Vultures, then soaring with them, east of the Plat I parking area
(almost half-way to Plat K road). The dark bird was significantly smaller
than the vultures, with similar markings when soaring (dark underwing
feathers, gray flight and tail feathers) and small dark head. The bird soared
with flat wings I thought, and landed back in the same tree where it had
perched with the vultures. No white anywhere that I could see.
I was 300 meters, getting to within 150 meters, but I still can't identify
the hawk from likely immature and dark possibilities in field guides. It
would be great if someone else was able to see the bird near Plat I, Valley
View, or Plat K roads. Mikeal
Here is a checklist with the location of trees where the bird perched:
