Greetings! There will be a Birders Night this Wednesday evening, Dec 17, at the Mercy Community Ed Bldg, rm 3, on Stewart Parkway and Renann St, where Office Depot used to be. We will just be looking at a bunch of bird photos, including some bad ones, to refresh ourselves on some species we expect to encounter on the upcoming Christmas Bird Count (this coming Saturday), and some identification challenges we often encounter. It will be an informal and organic time directed by the interests of the people there. Should be fun. Open at 6:30 pm, start photos at 7 pm, finish about 8:30 pm, social 'til 9 pm or so. A little bit of finger food will be provided. As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, we will also be raffling off (no cost) some used bird books (some nearly new, some not so new). This is thanks to a grant through Audubon's ToyotaTogetherGreen program. My target recipients for these books are not book collectors, but birders in Douglas County that want to increase their birding skills. We will also have a pile of recent and old "Oregon Birds" magazines that you may take home and keep or just borrow and bring back. Lastly, if you have never used a spotting scope as part of your birding experience, I have a simple, inexpensive scope (with tripod) that I would like to loan to you for a couple months--you can bring it back to the next Birders Night for someone else to use. Hope to see you there, Matt 541-670-1984
