Next weekend sees the launch of the 'BECTU Freelance Learning and Skills Network', a significant new initiative which is looking to use the resources and potential of the internet to empower and bring together freelancers from around the UK and Ireland. The launch includes a workshop which TVFL is contributing to. Date: Saturday 11th February 2006 Venue: Friends Meeting House, Euston London (opposite the mainline station) Time: 12 noon - 4.00 pm NB. All travel, accommodation, meals and refreshments expenses will be reimbursed. Please note this is an event for BECTU members only. Mentoring and technical training programmes: Founded in 1982, Connections Communications Centre is a registered charity dedicated to promoting cultural diversity and new opportunities in the media industry. They provide training, mentoring and job assistance to help open doors to the media industry for those excluded through lack of training and economic or social deprivation. They currently have places available on business mentoring and technical training programmes, which are free of charge to Freelancers who are either working or living (or who have worked over the last two years) within their allotted areas within West London. They have a limited time scale within which to offer this free training, in fact they must sign people up by March 2006. For more details, see the posting on our forum at: <http://p206.ezboard.com/fuktvfreelancersfrm4.showMessage?topicID=354.topic> http://p206.ezboard.com/fuktvfreelancersfrm4.showMessage?topicID=354.topic 3.) Over the last year, the Working Lives Research Institute at London Metropolitan University has been conducting research into barriers to employment for black and ethnic minority (BME) workers in the audio-visual industry in London. The research team at London Metropolitan University is keen to find BME workers in the industry to complete a questionnaire about their experiences of working and finding jobs in the audio-visual sector. They also would like to conduct some confidential face-to-face interviews.
