Dear Ohio Animal Advocates,

As you may know, Issue 2 is a ballot proposition that will be put before Ohio’s voters on Election Day (this Tuesday, November 3). The issue is whether to amend the Ohio Constitution to require the State to create a 13-member “Livestock Care Standards Board.”

The ASPCA opposes Issue 2 for the following reasons:

- There would be no one on the Board to represent the field of animal behavior, and only one Board member out of 13 would be from the humane community.

- It is unclear how the Livestock Care Standards Board would impact the work of county humane societies in enforcing anti-cruelty statutes, which apply to both farm animals and companion animals.

- As opposed to a regular law or statute, which could be altered in the future through the normal legislative process, Issue 2 would amend Ohio’s Constitution. This means that only another amendment could revise the Board’s membership or function.

What You Can Do
This Tuesday, November 3, please go to your polling place and vote “NO” on Issue 2.

Thank you for your support, Ohio!
