Greetings!
Not long ago, I transcribed some song lyrics into UEB, running the lines on for
each verse, using the line sign to indicate line ends.
I understand how line signs work, so do not need a refresher on this.
Complication: verse lyrics are laid out; Chorus lyrics are headed with the word
"Chorus" (which is obviously not part of the lyrics).
Later, rather than repeat the chorus lyrics, the word "Chorus" appears to refer
the reader back up to where the chorus lyrics appear.
My inclination is to pretend the word "Chorus" is not there, inserting line
signs only after lyrics (in the example below, using a line sign after the
first "Clementine", but not after the word "CHORUS").
Is this what you would do?
Example,
In a cavern, in a canyon
Excavating for a mine
Lived a miner, forty-niner
And his daughter, Clementine
CHORUS:
Oh, my darling, oh, my darling
Oh, my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever
Dreadful sorry, Clementine
Light she was and like a fairy
And her shoes were number nine
Herring boxes without topses
Sandals were for Clementine
CHORUS
Drove she ducklings to the water
Every morning just at nine
Hit her foot against a splinter
Fell into the foaming brine
CHORUS
Ruby lips above the water
Blowing bubbles soft and fine
But alas, I was no swimmer
So I lost my Clementine
Apologies in advance for the earworm!
