In the example postcode provided by George, capital letter (before the
leading 'W' and 'N') and capital word (before 'CH') indicators are used.
The capitals letter indicator affects only the immediately following letter
(UEB 8.3), and the capitals word indicator effects only the following
letters-sequence (UEB 8.4). The numeric indicator terminates a capitals
word indicator because it also terminates the letters-sequence. This is
what George is pointing out in his example in response to Margaret's
question.

With this in mind, Margaret's case would be transcribed as follows:

While not part of Margaret's question, the capitals passage indicator
persists through the passage, regardless if non-letter symbols are included
(UEB 8.5). However, it would not be appropriate to use the capitals passage
indicator in Margaret's example, because the symbols-sequence in question
is not a passage.

If you have a long-ish string which contains a mixture of capital letters
and numbers, does the numeric indicator terminate the capital sign?

Example:

AD2G56YT80UW7

For instance, would this example need three capital signs or a double cap
sign or …?

I’ve looked in the rule book and don’t seem to find a reference to this
sort of situation.
