James and Margaret,
Sometimes the underscores are a visual indication that a date in the form of 3
2-digit numbers is required, i.e. dd/mm/yy. Whether or not this format is
important would be a matter of context. If it were in an exam then it might
appropriate to modify the wording to make it more explicit what the question
requires, rather than just aim for a technically correct braille representation.
Best wishes, Vernon

Hi Margaret,
I have seen a form which had a date marked as __/__/__
Which was transcribed as:
⠨⠤⠸⠌⠨⠤⠸⠌⠨⠤
(three underscores separated by slashes)
So naturally, I would assume:
⠨⠤⠤⠨⠤⠤⠨⠤
(three underscores separated by hyphens)
for the case with hyphens. Not particularly friendly to read.
If you wanted to substitute anything, you could substitute dashes for
hyphens, which would make things a little better.
I would not suggest replacing the whole thing with just a single underscore,
because this loses that there are three parts to fill in.
I hope this helps.
With best regards,
James.

Greetings
UEB Rule 7.2.3 is clear in the use of the low line/underscore representing
blanks in print (including sequenced blanks as in d _ _ ght _r).
In a document with a date to be filled in, represented by blanks separated by
hyphens (__-__-__), would you use:
a single low line to represent the entire date?
low line hyphen low line hyphen low line?
three low lines separated by spaces?
Each option seems to have its benefits and problems.
Thoughts?
As ever, your input is appreciated!
