Hey this is Jonathon. I know it's a weird time but I just wanted to talk
about our boy scout meetings and more importantly what the scouts can do to
be more prepared when they arrive.
When we have an important camp out or event that's coming up relatively
soon. The scout leaders will often inform the scouts of the event, what
date it takes place, the time and location ect ect. Something that I
absolutely love about scouting and has improved my life so much outside of
the program is understanding your commitments.
By that I mean knowing your schedule. I'm finding that often in scout
meetings when I'm asking for attendance to a planned event in the near
future, the answer is often a maybe. And some scouts just genuinely don't
know what their parents already have planned, that's absolutely fine and I
understand. But something I'd like the scouts to get into a habit of is
keep a small calendar, or journal with them to scout meetings. They should
write down any previous commitments and any future ones for at least a few
months ahead.
This will not only help us in scout meetings, but this will greatly improve
their time management skills, which I promise, they will need in the very
near future (teachers will sometimes *accidentally* all assign students
homework the same week.)
So if all scouts could keep a small calendar with them (or something to
keep track of dates), I and the other scout leaders would be very thankful.
