It was a great interview , Tony seems to have been much more
appreciative of Marv in recent interviews as to how he was a great
guitarist etc and more positive, I think his auto biography would be a
lot different if he revised it now
Also Rod Stewart was on BBC2 promoting his new album and it includes a
track Born to Boogie - A tribute top Marc Bolan (It's a specially
written song not a cover) and Rod was saying how much he admired Marc
and wished he told Marc

him in NY some 15 years ago. So effusive and practically giddy to talk
in depth about the creative and recording processes. So much better
than the more celebrity oriented BS most journalists try to dive into!
Something I lucked out on (besides getting to hear that 1st tape he
made in his living room that still has not been released) was delving
into how he and Marc would discuss in depth before recording and again
during the mixing stage about establishing a unique sound & feel for
each different album project. Great stuff about Bowie projects and
their interactions too. The cool thing about this interview is he gets
into the weeds about particular tricks he used to create the common
feel to EW given all the different recording sessions and studios. He
has similar unique stories for Unicorn, Brown, Slider & Tanx. (Yes I
picked his brain on each of them). The most surprising thing to me was
how intentional it was and how much they would try out stuff up front
to bounce ideas off each other to get ideas dialed in ahead of time.
He told me, and it comes out in this interview a bit) that EW was
different in that their experience in the LA studio, especially
following how Mambo came out was to capture that ‘feel' on all the
stuff they recorded for the next album (that became EW).
