Dear ADB30 Members and Friends,
I have four items that I am excited to share with you:
1. Our new Subcommittee on Emerging Technologies in Network Modeling has
been approved. Lili Du, the brains and muscle behind the proposal, will be its
first chair. We are working on a webpage for the subcommittee and look forward
to your involvement. More coming via the Web soon (trb-networkmodeling. org)
2. The Ad Hoc Martin Beckmann Tribute Subcommittee has been formed with
Marco Nie (Chair), Hillel Bar-Gera and Stephen Boyles. The Subcommittee is
formulating ideas for recognizing Martin Beckmann's contributions to
transportation science. Please feel free to reach out to them with your
thoughts. You will be hearing more in coming weeks/months.
3. After much negotiation and discussion, I have agreed to a change in our
sessions. Instead of lightning sessions and the mega poster session that
includes all speakers, speakers will present at only one session. We hope to
have all of our lectern sessions as hybrid sessions that will include both
short presentations and small posters, with some of the session time allotted
to the posters. For agreeing to this, we will be given one extra such hybrid
session and TRB is working to move our smaller poster session to Tuesday if at
all possible. Last year was the last time TRB was willing (reluctantly) to
allow us to have speakers in two sessions. It is very difficult for them to
schedule the same talk twice. Please share your excitement or concerns about
this change with me and I can discuss these with TRB.
4. We welcome a number of new members: Baloka Belezamo (AZ DOT), Cynthia
Chen (NSF/UW), Lauren Gardner (UNSW), Alireza Khani (UMN), Chungwon Lee
(Seoul National University), Michael Levin (UMN), Natalia Ruiz-Juri (UT), Ben
Stabler (RSG), Peng Xiao (VADOT) and Ali Zockaie (MSU). I am hopeful that we
will get another 5 interim member positions (most of which are already
accounted for) this June. Thank you to our parting members, many of whom have
served for many years: Yanfeng Ouyang, Wai Yuen Szeto, Daniel Tischler,
Mansoureh Jeihani, Natarajan Janarthanan, Shou-Ren Hu, Jon Bottom, Yi-Chang
Chiu, Hillel Bar-Gera, Miguel Figliozzi, Lei Zhang, Tao Yao, Yafeng Yin, and
William Young (I hope I got all of this right!!!). We hope you will not be
strangers!
I hope everyone is doing well.
Best,
Elise (Committee Chair)
