TSA Hopes to Limit Patdowns on Children

Seeing a child being pat down at a U.S. airport makes most people see red. The
head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)said the agency was
working to make security screening procedures less intrusive for small
children.

Airport screeners will now make repeated attempts to screen young children
without invasive pat-downs. The agency is working to put that change in place
around the country, and it should reduce, but not eliminate, pat-downs for
children, an agency spokesman said.

The TSA drew criticism when a video of a six-year-old child undergoing a TSA
enhanced pat-down surfaced on the internet. Because the child moved while being
screened by a body scanner, the blurry image prompted security officers to
conduct a manual pat-down.

Children and the elderly are mentioned as passengers who should not be
considered serious threats. Critics of a one-size-fits-all approach to airport
security prefer distinguishing non-threatening, low-risk passengers from those
who could pose a potential risk. Despite the complaints, no clear answer is
given as to how this can be done.

The TSA will test its trusted traveler program at select airports as early as
this fall. The program will allow you to volunteer background information in
exchange for faster, less intrusive screening. The TSA plans to test the
lighter screening concept with flight crews, beginning with pilots.

U.S. Armed Forces Savings at Warwick Hotels

Warwick Hotels offers active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces on leave
with their families a 25 to 50 percent discount for up to two rooms, allowing
for privacy and family time.

The discount is part of an Armed Forces R&R package available at five U.S.
Warwick Hotels, in New York, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco and Seattle. The
package is for servicemen and women with military identification and leave or
deployment paperwork (with rate code WKMILE). The percentage of discount varies
– usually at least 25 percent off the best available rate that may be applied
to two rooms, including suites (except in Seattle, where the suite offer is not
available). This makes it easier for the whole family to reconnect, yet still
provides privacy when needed.

Warwick Hotels began providing the military discount in March 2008. Rates and
discounts vary by season, but a discount is offered most days, including
holidays, based on space availability. Each Warwick hotel may also offer
discounts in their restaurants or on amenities like Wi-Fi.

Reservations for the Armed Forces R&R Package can be made by telephone or the
Warwick Web site. Click on the Special Offers button at the top of the home
page, scroll down to the Armed Forces R&R package and select the hotel you
