I'm around, is th school open today? I can pop in this morning, or later
today to water.
I'm also available to do this all school holidays (at this point) except

Sorry, a rambly but important email. I’’m not feeling well, so I hope it
makes sense.
We need your help to water the gardens of TPS really thoroughly *this
week *as there will be asbestos removed from part of the main building
21-26 Dec and the whole site will be locked down, with no access permitted.
(see Leon’s email below) The asbestos is currently in a safe state, so
don’t worry about that, it’s just part of the DET asbestos removal policy.
Apart from this weeks hot weather we need to water the gardens enough to
carry them through a week with no-one on site. We’ll also need to have a
holiday watering roster after that.
Areas we need to give a really thorough watering are:
1. the front Weaving and Food Forest Gardens on Hutton St (can use
sprinkler moved by hand. One tap at SW corner of Main Building, another
along the P-2 extension wall in the Weaving Garden)
2. the plants in the green tree guards along the back fence (hose &
watering cans attached to tap below Indig room window)
3. the advanced trees near the bike shed and in Tree Island (portable
hose attached to tap below Indig room window)
4. the small orchard at the Babajen entrance (portable hose /
sprinkler connected to tap in Babajen bubblers)
5. the Prep playground (some of this is on an irrigation system, but
not all) (Nursery hose)
6. parts of the Farm that are not connected to irrigation (hose in the
Farm)
7. the Rainforest area (in the water tank area fenced off from the
Farm) (Farm hose) We also have some weeping hose that needs to be laid here
so we can connect it to irrigation if anyone’s up for that?
Areas on timed irrigation
- the new Babajen Dreaming landscaped areas (the rock edged bits
around the synthetic turf) are all connected to irrigation, so should be ok
- the raised beds in the Farm are connected to irrigation
Plants in the Nursery
- can someone water these plants on Tue & Wed mornings? I can do the
afternoons. They’ll need both on those hot days.
- we’ll have to put them in the greenhouse, which is not ideal, but at
least they’ll be on timed water.
- Ian, can you and I check the timing and operation of the greenhouse
irrigation and other systems later this week?
- Anyone is welcome to join and see how the timers work
Need a watering roster for this week.
No doubt you have heaps of questions about “how do I find hoses etc..”,
"which bits should I water …?”
I am feeling under the weather today and can’t organise it all, but could
meet someone at pick up Tuesday, but feel free to start watering before
then.
There are hoses in the Nursery, and Ian bought hose connectors and a
sprinkler that will help. Maybe Ian can let us know where they are? There’s
a tap key in the metal cupboard in the Garden Classroom, and one in the
first tall metal cabinet in the tool shed. Please don’t lose these!
After asbestos removal we will need a roster for watering which would be
best on a Google calendar, and sent out to the chook team and Working Bee
volunteers too, as some of these have offered to help. I am in no state to
sort this out and would love it if someone could set this up please!
There’s a TPSEnviro google account that can be used. I think if the
watering areas get broken into
We’ll need to wait for the all clear from Leon on asbestos removal before
we can return to TPS after Dec 26th.

As mentioned in last week, commencing Saturday December 21st there will
be Asbestos removal works in the Main Building.
This means that between Dec 21st and Dec 26th , the school will be in
lockdown for everyone’s health and safety as a specialised Asbestos Removal
Team safely remove some Asbestos from the Prep-1 Area.
*NO ONE is permitted to be on the school grounds during this time. *
This is part of DET’s policy of removing Asbestos from DET schools. The
Team will only be removing a certain type of Asbestos in this round of
removals.
Once the Asbestos has been removed and the area is declared safe,
restoration works will commence in the P-2 Area. This will most likely
occur between Christmas and New Year but the dates are still to be
confirmed.
Could you please let members of the Enviro team know and anyone who may
access the school to water plants etc
