I have been working on a project to reopen the garden next to Thornbury
Station
*Reimagining Open Space - Improving community connections by redesigning,
reviving and creating welcoming and inclusive healing gardens and artistic
space in Thornbury *
The Third Space Collective, together with GenU will open the gates to a
1300 sqm under-utilised garden and creative space next to Thornbury Station.
We invite you to experience the garden and share your thoughts on turning
this previously closed site into a welcoming facility for broader use by
the local community.
Situated on Vic Track land, this garden has been used on and off for
decades by NDIS participants involving them in activities and providing
workplace skills in horticulture, pottery, woodworking and arts and crafts.
For the first time we are inviting the community to visit the garden and we
encourage everyone to think about the interaction they would like with the
site, the relationships to foster with other community members, and empower
people to get involved in the site's future as a community hub.
We invite the community, along with current clients, carers and staff using
the site to collaborate with experienced designers and horticulturalists to
redesign and revitalize the site and the program of activities.
This is a unique opportunity to create a green third space - a space to
pause between work and home, to make valuable community connections and
ensure the future of this site as an accessible and welcoming green space.
If you are unable to make it on the 27th March we could arrange another
time for a garden tour and conversation about future projects. Let me know
if you are interested (it has a woodworking workshop and is soon to have a
pottery workshop, a greenhouse and hopefully revived kitchen facilities.
I've also managed to get three companies to quote on the TPS new kitchen
garden classroom - fingers crossed it is a project that will begin soon!
