Also, the tape drive powered on and played/FF/RW with now issue. So that
tricked me into assuming the connector was fine. Clearly the power pins are
less sensitive and/or the data pins were dirtier.
Just an afterthought....

Thanks Chiron,
That seem to do it!
I assumed the connector was fine because the 1530 worked on the 2001. So, I
guess the edge connector on the 2001 was fine, it seems it was the female
connector on the 2001s tape drive that was the issue.
I'm going to start putting deoxit on everything now...Actually, I hear it's
quite good on toast 😉
Let me know when you want those measurements.
Ben

Check your connections. Use Deoxit contact
cleaner. It’s the best, by a huge margin. Everything
else for contact cleaning is crap by comparison.
Especially isopropyl alcohol.

For those of you who were on the TPUG zoom call last Thursday...
As you saw the tape drive was functioning normally when re-installed.
Today, after not touching it since then, the problem came back! It won't find
anything when searching a tape.
I should have taken a screenshot of the zoom call, printed it in colour, and
hung it in sight of the PET. 😉
For those of you that were not on the call...
The internal tape drive on my 2001 seems to have an intermittent issue,
mechanically everything is working well. But most of the time it won't read
data.
I connected a 1530 to the 2001's internal connector and the 1530 works fine. I
connected the 2001's internal tape drive to a c64 and ran an azimuth tuning
program, no data is displayed. When I connect the 1530 to the c64 I do see the
data displayed.
When I was demonstrating and troubleshooting the issue at last week's TPUG
meeting...With everyone watching...I could not duplicate the problem.
Everything worked great. So, I reinstalled the tape drive, and still, it worked
well.
Now, a few days later, untouched since it worked on the TPUG zoom call, the
problem came back.
If anyone has any tips on troubleshooting this issue, I'd appreciate it!
Thanks,
Ben Kayfetz
