Frank - as Ian states the WD1772 is a disk controller. I don't think Western Digital even make floppy drives.

Have a look at the discussion at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/comp.sys.cbm/4ziuvOgaejQ/pgSwscIqCn8J

re the WD1770 and WD1772 change and other mods that were made to the 1581.

I hear you and will try. But.... The 1581 physical drive was
swapped out with a wd 1772.

HD disks will for sure not work in a 1581. The 1581 is a
DD drive. The surfaces of DD and HD disks are physically
different and DD heads cannot write reliably to an HD
            surface.

Does any one have a refresh box of them for sale and
can bring to the meeting tommorrow?

                Thanks
