Well simpler if PAL monitors were something you were likely to find in north
america which I highly doubt and shipping one is likely to be costly (and
potentially unsuccessful). Sure a few might be around, but they would be very
rare here since they were never sold here.

Yes but not a PAL 1084. Do you at least get a BW image? If not you have
either got the wrong setting on the monitor or something wrong with the C64.
Only lack of colour would be affected by NTSC vs PAL monitor.

It just needs to be a PAL monitor that takes the Commodore signal - not just
1801 or 1701 but also 1702, 1084, 1902 etc. . In other words a Commodore PAL
monitor with the 3 plug video cable.

You would need a PAL monitor. I have a PAL 1081 I keep here with scart
connector for my PAL machines. I also have a 1701 PAL version I purchased off
another TPUG member.Both of these are 220V and require a step up transformer.
You should be able to buy a scaler with VGA output though.

Hello everybody. I am having trouble with my PAL system. I'm trying to use a
Commodore 1084 Video Monitor with my PAL computer and disk drive, as I have
done in the past, but the monitor won't work with the system. On the back of
the monitor, I plugged in the red cable on the bottom, the yellow cable in the
middle, and the white cable on top, so that all the colors matched. I plugged
the other end of the cable into the serial port of the computer. There is a
switch on the back of the monitor labelled analog and digital. I tried both
positions, but they didn't work. On the front, there is a switch labelled Video
Mode, and 3 positions labelled Comp., Sep., and RGB. I tried all 3 positions,
but they didn't work. On the bottom of the front panel, there is a series of
rotary knobs for contrast, tint, etc. I tried them in different positions with
no luck, so I tried to put each knob in the medium position. Unfortunately,
that didn't work either. Please help me with this problem. Thank you, Marlon
