On Saturday morning, I was sitting on the steps of the deck, trying to recover from yesterday's migraine, and watching the Eastern Tent Caterpillar cats parading around, when I saw a joker in the group. A smaller caterpillar was crawling around, with a dotted back instead of the uninterrupted cream stripe down the back. After taking photos and looking at Wagner's Caterpillars of Eastern NA and BugGuide.net, I realized that I had a Forest Tent Caterpillar - a first for me. I looked again at last year's photos of Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moths, to be sure that I hadn't missed a Forest, but they were all Eastern. So: 5-1 Malacosoma disstria - Forest Tent Caterpillar Moth - Hodges#7698 Oh, yeah. Eastern Tent Caterpillars have been here for some time, so: 4-15 Malacosoma americanum - Eastern Tent Caterpillar Moth - Hodges#7701 Photos of both are attached. Audrey Audrey Hoff I think that I think, therefore I am.......maybe.......
