As many of you recall, I made a plea last year for evidence of the occurrence of Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail in Tennessee. I received some photos in response to this request, but, due mainly to my own ignorance about how to i.d. this species, I did not proceed to add this species to the state butterfly list at BAMONA, although as it turned out I received at least one set of photos that was more than adequate to verify this species' occurrence in Tennessee. Being now somewhat more enlightened about the i.d. of this "new" species and having given the photos from last year a new look (and having received additional solid evidence of the Appy's occurrence in Tennessee), I am now ready to submit that evidence so that this new swallowtail can be reflected at the BAMONA website for the following Tennessee counties-Sevier and Unicoi. I've also created a new page of my website dealing with the tiger swallowtails in Tennessee. Have a look (link below) if you have interest in this matter, especially if you live near the eastern mountains of our fair state. I hope that during 2009 more east Tennessee counties with high elevation will be added to the list of Tennessee counties in which this new butterfly is verified to occur. The Appalachian Tiger Swallowtail is species # 134 for the Tennessee butterfly list at BAMONA. Species # 135 is already confirmed ( but not added to the BAMONA site; more on this species in a later post); who will find species # 136? And where will it show up? Am I generating a thread here?
