TN-Butterfliers,
The Gladeville Spring NABA butterfly count was held Saturday April 15, 2023. We
were joined in the morning by several NTOS members to combine a bird outing
with our butterfly count. Hopefully some were enticed to come over to the "dark
side" of watching and counting butterflies as well as birds! It was a beautiful
day for all.Species of interest include one West Virginia White, evidently only
the second record for Wilson County (according to BAMONA). This is as far west
in the state that this species has been found. As Bart mentioned in the post
for his count, this has been an odd weather year so far, and this may be an
in-between point in the season. A few Henry's Elfins were still flying, but no
Falcate Orangetips were seen. Attached are photos by Gary Gilpatrick (W. VA
white) and Mike Smith (Henry's elfin and a mystery duskywing, possibly
Sleepy?). Eight official counters found the following:
