I had a bit of time on Tuesday so decided to check out the one spot in north Hamilton County where we find Baltimore Checkerspots. Everything looked good, but no checkerspots. It may have been a bit early for them. We usually find them the first or second week of May. I did see some other butterflies in the area and they are listed below: Zebra Swallowtail - 5 E. Tiger Swallowtail - 2 Monarch - 1 American Lady - 1 Pearl Crescent - 1 E. Tailed Blue - 4 Juvenal's Duskywing - 1 Next I visited the Cumberland Trail, where it connects with Leggett Rd. in Sale Creek, also Hamilton County. I've never walked any of this before, but the woods are absolutely full of beech trees. I immediately thought Early Hairstreak. Wish I could report finding one, but no luck. I do intend to spend more time looking in this area, as it has way more beech trees than any other area I'm familiar with. Following is a list of butterflies I saw there. Pipevine Swallowtail - 1 Zebra Swallowtail - 1 E. Tiger Swallowtail - 1 West Virginia White- 1 Pepper and Salt Skipper - 1 Juvenal's Duskywing - 2 Duskywing sp. - 7 Bill Haley Chattanooga, TN Hamilton County
