The 2017 Elizabethton NABA Butterfly Count will be held Saturday, August 5,
meeting at 9 am in front of the Visitor Center at Sycamore Shoals State Park.
We will count in the woods, fields, gardens, and riverside trails of the Park
until lunchtime, after which we will carpool to various stops in Elizabethton,
Stoney Creek, and along Panhandle Road on Holston Mountain, returning around 5
or 6 pm.
Participants may join late or leave early as needed, and may contact us by cell
phone for catching up with us in the field at [423]4 83=0470 or at 483 0439.
Recommended things to bring include a lunch, water, sun protection, light rain
gear, close-focusing binoculars, camera, field guide, and a friend.
If weather is bad enough that we cannot continue we will try again the
following day, Sunday Aug. 6, following the same schedule.
The event is sponsored by the North American Butterfly Association which
requests a $3 donation per participant to cover administrative expenses (I will
try to have enough ones, but correct change could be useful). Also, the event
is hosted by the Sycamore Shoals State Park, who help us advertise, grant us
the use of a picnic shelter, and maintain the butterfly garden in conjunction
with volunteers and Master Gardeners. They have been very supportive and are
greatly appreciated.
If there are any questions please feel free to e-mail me before Saturday at
dnldhlt@xxxxxxx. Better is to call me at 4234830470, no text or messages, just
call again if necessary, anytime.
