David, I'll plan on being present for the June 18-20 foray in the southwest counties. I'd still like to conduct a one-time butterfly count in a NABA circle to be submitted to NABA for publication. Better that one set of such data be available than none; and you never know when someone may move to that area and want to continue the count in a later year, decade, even century. Having a count from 2010 with which to compare possible later results will be invaluable. I will pay the $3 participants fee for anyone taking part, if that will sweeten the deal. Unfortunately, there are no dates that are convenient for all of them. The earliest available date that's good for 4 of the 5 is the weekend of JUNE 18-20. Since most suggest that we try to get the Foray in on the early side of summer, I propose that weekend as the target for this event. We can go back again later in the year, or a following year, if we desire. I will next be communicating with those who offered suggestions on places to center the event. As a reminder, this will take place in the south central counties of Tennessee, potentially including, but not limited to, Franklin, Giles, Lincoln, Moore... I will plan to make it run from Friday evening into Sunday. Participants would be able to take part during any portion of the weekend. We could survey for moths in the evenings. We should also target dragonflies and birds and any other flora and fauna of which participants are familiar. I hope to have a note out about location within the next few days. I hope you will post to me directly, or share information with the entire list, about your availability for this weekend - or ideas for how to proceed. It has been suggested that we include a NABA-style Count Circle. If this is something that would be beneficial as a one-time thing, that seems appropriate. (I don't know that people would return every year around the same time to count again). Happy New Year to everyone!! David Trently Avian Pursuits Nature Tours ...come see the real world!
