We're watching a few snow flurries here in Knoxville today after a beautiful spring-like day on Saturday gave way to a much cooler Easter morning. Redbud winter perhaps? I've been jealous all winter of folks that had winter finches showing up at their feeders; so I was happy to see our first PURPLE FINCHES of the winter on Sunday (3/23) -- two males that only stayed long enough to pose for some photos. I hadn't seen a Junco or either of our Red-breasted Nuthatches since 11 March but both species returned to the feeders on both Saturday and Sunday. One of the few touches of spring we've had so far were two BROWN THRASHERS that showed up on Sunday. A Great Horned Owl was heard briefly Sunday evening while I was walking one of our dogs; first I've heard from him in some time.
