I had THREE fox sparrows in my yard this morning....have had one for the
past several days.

Many of you probably are experiencing lots of birds at your backyard
feeders with this extreme weather. This morning early I was out filling my
feeders and felt like I was in a Spring “fallout” that exists sometimes on
High Island, Texas. Yellow-rumped warblers were everywhere waiting for me
to fill the feeders. A pine warbler was about 2 feet from me at eye level
totally unafraid. A Hermit Thrush ( first yard bird sighting ) hopped
nearby. The song of the white throated sparrow was heard in my yard.
Bluebirds in the branches were waiting for their suet. They were all so
hungry and cold they didn’t care about me or perhaps they recognized I was
there to help them. My ruby crowned kinglet has continued to surprise me by
often staying on a feeder when I am walking by. He seems to keep his ruby
crown flashed half of the time but he is intent on eating.
Also, I am happy to report my Summer Tanager continues to visit my yard
eating suet and safflower seeds.

This morning I decided to try my luck with the winter roads and check the
bells bend area for whatever the ice and snow may have brought in. At the
old sod farm at the end of the road, there were abundant sparrows and a
flock of LAPLAND LONGSPURS which I got a fairly close count of at 45 when
they picked up and flew. Well over two dozen Savannah Sparrows were also in
the field, picking at grass seed, along with Songs, Swamps, White-crowned,
white-throated, and A Fox Sparrow, and I picked out two American Pipits.
The longspurs picked up and flew to the back of the field about 20 minutes
after I arrived, but not before giving me the best looks I have ever had of
this species. In fact, I sat down in the snow, and a few crawled around too
close for me to even focus my camera on. It was spectacular.
Old hickory Blvd has NOT been plowed or treated, the whole way out from
Ashland City Highway. It is 3 or 4 inches of the snow and such we've had
the past few days. I am comfortable driving in snow and have a very capable
vehicle, but be advised if anyone is thinking about birding bells bend.

Subject: [TN-Bird] Fox Sparrow continues in East Memphis
A Fox Sparrow continues at my house, east Memphis near Yates and Shady
Grove, today 2/17/21. First seen yesterday and a first for my yard. I also
caught a glimpse of an Orange-crowned Warbler, one present here all season
but not seen during the GBBC. And a White-crowned Sparrow made a brief
appearance but was chased off by the White-throated mob. White-crowns are
rare in my yard. I’m enjoying Purple Finches and Pine Siskins, too, among
