I ran by Concord Park off Northshore Drive on the Knox Co side of Fort
Loudoun Lake before work this morning (Thurs, 6 Feb 2014) in hopes of
locating some of the ducks Beth Schilling reported yesterday evening.

5 Long-tailed Duck - 3 female, 2 male seen from the boat ramp. 1 female
was feeding well out from the ramp toward the main channel, and the others
were all seen in flight. All five flew to the area between the double
bridge (mouth of Turkey Creek) and the sailing club, but I was unable to
relocate them. They were moving around quite a bit.

3 Common Goldeneye - females/immatures seen from the double bridge looking
back toward the single bridge (Sinking Creek mouth)

9 Red-breasted Merganser - 2 male, 7 female/immatures initially with the
goldeneye

1 "black-headed" gull - note the lower case and quotes. Seen from the
boat ramp in a float of mostly Bonaparte's Gulls (~75) in the main
channel. Hard to get much on this bird even in the scope at 60x due to
distance and heat waves. Fully blackhead, dark primaries, no noticeable
difference in size or mantle color from the Bonnies so probably just an
early moulter but worth keeping an eye out for this one.

Other notables:
7 Bufflehead
2 Hooded Mergansers at the Cove
3000++ gulls, mostly Ring-billed but at least a dozen Herring and maybe
200 Bonaparte's
Horned Grebe, roughly half dozen from double bridge
Pied-billed Grebe, numerous, ~30+

Tried for the White-winged Scoters at Jefferson Park but dipped.

While I don't really keep track of lists, based on a rough count I did the
other day following recent discussions, the LT Ducks, Goldeneyes, and RB
Mergansers bring me to at least 223 for Knox Co. The LT Ducks were seen
flying across the main channel so I also got to add that one for Blount Co
(already had the other two for Blount).
