The Songbird Trail below Norris Dam in Anderson County, TN continues to be a great place to see migrating songbirds this September. I birded it from 9:35 a.m. until 2:50 p.m. today, September 22. Highlights included a Canada Warbler with a very faint necklace (indicating an immature female, I believe) and an Ovenbird (quite a surprise). The Ovenbird was low in the trees by the river, just a few yards from the bottom of the stairs that go down to the short trail there. It popped up ahead of me as I began to walk the lower trail toward the dam, perched on a branch and posed for me for a minute or so, allowing me great looks. Lots of other good birds too: Number of species: 41 Canada Goose 20 Great Blue Heron 2 Ruby-throated Hummingbird 3 Red-bellied Woodpecker 3 Downy Woodpecker 2 Hairy Woodpecker 1 Northern Flicker 4 Eastern Wood-Pewee 3 Eastern Phoebe 3 White-eyed Vireo 5 probably more Yellow-throated Vireo 1 (singing from across the river) Blue Jay 9 American Crow 6 Carolina Chickadee 5 Tufted Titmouse 3 Carolina Wren 11 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 1 Eastern Bluebird 8 Swainson's Thrush 1 (probably more but I could only get a look at one) Wood Thrush 1 American Robin 1 Gray Catbird 3 Northern Mockingbird 1 Brown Thrasher 3 Cedar Waxwing 2 Tennessee Warbler 1 Nashville Warbler 1 Chestnut-sided Warbler 1 Magnolia Warbler 3 Black-and-white Warbler 1 American Redstart 5 (lots of them; this is a very conservative estimate) Ovenbird 1 Hooded Warbler 2 or 3 Canada Warbler 1 Eastern Towhee 2 Field Sparrow 8 Scarlet Tanager 1 Northern Cardinal 10 Rose-breasted Grosbeak 2 Indigo Bunting 1 American Goldfinch 4 This report was generated automatically by eBird v2(http://ebird.org) Carole Gobert, Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
