After what seemed to me a very slow migration so far at Radnor Lake, this
morning was a real treat for several birders. For two hours there was
constant migrant action with 14 warbler species seen (that I was aware of)
in just the areas in front of the ranger house along the dam and from the
spillway bridge. Highlights included a gorgeous Blackburnian that stayed
fairly low for at least 15 minutes by the canoe launch ramp; an Ovenbird on
a bare branch completely in the open; a male Nashville Warbler right below
the spillway bridge where we could easily see the reddish crown patch; a
Gray-cheeked Thrush which called loudly from a close, open perch; a
confidling Swainson's Thrush that was singing softly; and several nice
Philadelphia Vireos from the spillway bridge. Several Yellow-rumps have
come in, and the Yellow-billed Cuckoos continue to pose nicely. A wonderful
morning!
