Busy day so I'll try to post more later but last night was one of the biggest movements of migrants I've had passing over our house. We live on Black Oak Ridge in west Knox Co., TN at about 1100 ft and often hear birds calling as they fly over at night in both the spring and fall. Last night (25-26 Sept) literally THOUSANDS of birds were calling. I was out from about 11:15 to 11:30PM. Then around 1:00AM our bassetthound that was staying outside woke us up whinning to come inside. I spent the next hour listening and taping calls using the flowerpot mic design from www.oldbird.org. At times averaging at least 1 call per second! I think that some of the calls will come through pretty well and maybe I can make some sonograms and ID some of them when I get time. This morning, movement continued. Our neighborhood was sticking up like a little island above the fog and from 7:30 to 8:30 when I finally had to tear myself away to get to work (late) lots of birds were moving. Many could be heard still calling and flying over without stopping. Will try to post a list later but 8 warbler species were seen.
