Yesterday, I was doing some overdue housework at my home in nw Shelby County
when I heard a "thump" on the kitchen storm door. Stepping out, I found a
female ruby-throated hummingbird on the deck in a heap. Fearing the worst, I
picked her up. Immeaditely, she began to flutter and buzz her wings. When I
opened my hand, she flew away, disappearing over the roof. A happy moment.
