Hello Birders, Some 60-odd years ago in Florida, we had enough sites and so few birders that we quickly realized that all the counts could not be done on weekends. Some of our avid birders arranged to take the necessary week days as vacation days from work if they were not students, teachers or retirees, etc., who were on Christmas break anyway. Of course, Allen and Helen Cruickshank ALWAYS had theirs on a Saturday, because many of the old time great birders of the day flew in to help us with the Cocoa Count! It WAS the "biggie," and I am honored to have taken part in Allen & Helen's very first one and almost all of them until I left Florida for good in 1979. Dates (and compilers) for UCR CBCs: Russell/Adair counties, KY-14 December (Roseanna Denton) Clay County, TN-16 December (Terry Campbell) Wayne County, KY-17 December (Roseanna Denton) Cookeville, TN-19 December (Steve Stedman) White County, TN-21 December (Doug Downs) Crossville, TN-23 December (Ed LeGrand) DeKalb County, TN-26 December (Carol Williams) Fentress/Morgan counties, TN-29 December (SJS and EKL) Somerset, KY-1 January (Roseanna Denton) Warren County, TN-4 January (Gregg Garrison) Given that there are 30 CBCs in TN and only 23 dates on which they can be scheduled, some scheduling conflict is inevitable, but less conflict than currently is the case is probably possible.
