For those TN-Birders out there who conduct Breeding Bird Surveys for the federal BBS program, let me encourage you to complete your BBS route(s) this year or to arrange for your route to be conducted by another competent ear-birder if you cannot run it. Some of the more important BBS data analyses use only data from routes that have been run by the same observer for five or more consecutive years, so getting your route run each year is critical to increasing the value of the BBS data, but if you cannot run the route, it is still better to have someone else run it than not to have any data at all for a particular year (or groups of years, in some cases). I've summarized TN BBS information for 1966-2005 at this page of my website: http://iweb.tntech.edu/sstedman/BBSInfoTN1966-2005.htm So far only 38 routes (of 47 in TN) have had data turned in for 2006, a sizable decrease from the 42 routes that had data turned in for 2005. Let's make 2007 the first year in more than two decades to see every TN BBS route conducted, and let's keep it that way for a long time to come.
