This is just a quick note about the Hickory-Priest CBC conducted today in eastern Davidson and parts of Sumner County. 16 participants tallied 90 species, which is slightly above average. Highlights included: Female White-winged Scoter at Old Hickory Lake (more details below) Sandhill Cranes (19 birds total, from two separate areas) Marsh Wren at Shelby Bottoms The White-winged Scoter was with American Coots in the mouth of Drake's Creek in Sumner County. We observed it from Sanders Ferry Park, which is at the southern tip of Sanders Ferry Road. As you enter the main part of the park, there is a small road off to the left that takes you to a little bluff looking out over this area, and we found it from there. If you go to look for this bird, you will need a scope - it is too far to be recognizable with binoculars. I will post more details after I have compiled all the results.
