As might be expected when Red and Louise Gambill are your guests and birding
companions, we had a fantastic day. At Casey Cove Park near out house we had
13 species of warblers: Black-throated Blue, Black-throated Green, Blackpoll,
Cerulean, Common Yellowthroat, Magnolia, Palm, Prothonotary, Tennessee,
Wilson's, Yellow, Yellow-rumped, and Yellow-throated with most being seen in
multiple numbers. Also had Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Summer and Scarlet
Tanagers, Eastern Kingbirds and Phoebe and Wood-Peewee as well as the usual
birds.
Then we went to Holmes Creek Road and found 4 more species of warblers:
Kentucky, Hooded, Worm-eating, and American Redstart, making a total of 17 for
the day. At both places we saw dozens of Red-eyed Vireos and Blue-Gray
Gnatcatchers. Strangely enough we saw no thrushes although several were heard.
But we never count birds unless we actually see them.

Lot of yard birds too, highlighted by the continued increase in Rose-breasted
Grosbeaks. At one time this morning we counted 24 at the feeders near our deck
and over 15 at the feeders behind the garage. Even the Gambills have never
seen these birds in such numbers. How beautiful to see them all around the
yard for the entire week. Probably won't happen again in our lifetime so we're
trying to add every red, black, and white memory possible.
