To celebrate Easter and spring, we birded William Hastie Natural Area and Forks of the River WMA in southern Knox County this afternoon between 16:00 - 19:00. Highlights of the day included six warbler species and two thrushes, all of which were FOS species for us since we haven't gotten out much. Wm. Hastie also had an amazing array of wildflowers, despite the mix of invasives and debris that can also be found at the site. Cope's gray tree frogs were heard calling at each location. Highlights below. William Hastie Natural Area: Wood thrush Veery Kentucky warbler Hooded warbler Wildflowers: Blue phlox, yellow trillium, blue-eyed grass, may-apple, smooth solomon's seal, false solomon's seal, hoary puccoon, wild blue violet, wild strawberry, fire pink, cross vine, wild ginger, little brown jugs, bloodroot, toothwort sp., other unidentified species.
