Today, April 17, 2021 I observed a White-winged Dove at 12:37 pm at my home at
203 Clyde Avenue in Smyrna, Tennessee (Rutherford County). The bird was also
vocalizing. There is a checklist in eBird for this bird and Graham Gerdeman
was gracious to send info through Telegram. That's the last time I saw the
bird but Michael Smith saw the bird flying later this afternoon. It was coming
in again from a south west direction near the streets of Noel Lane and Clyde
Avenue. The ECDO usually come in from there and Highland Avenue and Richland
Avenue. The bird likes to sit in a silver Sugar Maple tree near the middle. It
is the one of the biggest trees in the back yard. There are also pine trees
here and a Pine Warbler at times. The White-winged Dove's vocalization is in
eBird. White on wing is distinctive. Call is different than Eurasian Collared
Dove. Tail of the White-winged Dove has white and is rounded which you can see
when it flies.
Back in 2017 on April 16 12:16 pm , there was also a White-winged Dove here and
at Kristy Baker's place. At that time, the bird only stayed around for 2
days. I only saw it a few times then.
Birders are welcome to come by. The bird is infrequent as there is a Cooper's
Hawk here who stays around a lot. You can park in the side yard or front if
you like. I've been vaccinated and you might want to be safe and turn your
phones off as there has been internet crimes around this area. My address
below. You don't have to call but my number is below if you need it. Photo
attached of the bird.
